In the last decade or so India has emerged as a leader in information technology and made great strides in space technology. Whereas previously India's contribution to the world consisted mainly of exporting its philosophy. Today progress has been made on the economic front as well. In the medical science there has been tremendous progress. The improved economy has enabled the development of new well-equipped hospitals in many Indian cities, which can provide medical services at par with their western counterparts. Indian doctors and nurses are highly skilled and possess expertise to carry out the best available medical treatment.
India is a hub for quality healthcare. Patients from neighbouring countries like Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Middle East countries are flocking to India for medical treatment. This is only because quality healthcare is available here. India has a good set up, experienced and qualified medical professionals. Every aspect of treatment in India is as good as in the developed countries, and India has the potential in several others - Quality Manpower, Clinical and Material training, Access to Latest Technology, Mature Pharmaceutical Industry etc.
Former British Welfare Reform Minister Mr. Frank Field told BBC in an interview on April 8, 2000
"If you look at India for example, you could fly out a patient, fly out a relative, give an operation to someone local and still be quid's
in". Mr. Field has advocated that flying out patients' abroad for cut-price operation could save NHS from collapse. He said the cost of health care in India is much lower than in Britain and urged the Prime Minister Tony Blair to consider his plan for what he called "NHS International". The reason for quoting Mr. Frank Field's statement here is not for the cost factor. His statement is a confirmation of the fact that the Indian healthcare standard is comparable to Western Standard.
There is a lot of misinformation in West about the healthcare standard of India. What they know is about the India, which was fifteen years ago. Fifteen years ago there was definitely a huge gap between Indian and Western healthcare in terms of technology. The reasons were multiple - affordability, education standard and greater control of the Government on the healthcare system. Today all these have been taken care of. As a result, there is no difference between Indian and Western healthcare standards. In all major Indian cities there are many big hospitals which are well equipped and comparable to the best in the world.
India has the third largest pool of skilled manpower. Renowned globally, the Indian Physicians and Nurses have contributed to making the life easier all over the world. Thousands of Indian Physicians and Nurses are serving in the Middle East, Far East, Europe and USA. There are two reasons for employing Indian medical professionals by these countries, the high standard of medical education, simplicity and dedication of Indian medical professionals.
India has hundreds of medical colleges in Government and private sector. The standard of medical education is not less than the west. The dedication of Indian nurses is globally renowned, their sincerity is praised.
The high standard of medical education, the easy familiarity with English language, even at the lowly cadre of ward boy, eliminates the communication barrier. By recruiting Physicians, Nurses and Technicians from India, you get the same western standard at a lower price.
An asset to his workmates, an Indian is surely an asset to the place where he resides. |
